Availability

There is a lot of training involved to get volunteers up to speed, so we don’t want to commit to putting in the work to have people help and then have them not show up or fade away quickly. We prioritize working with volunteers who are able to keep consistent schedules so we can efficiently plan our days. Ideally, volunteers sign up to help on a weekly basis, though we occasionally allow volunteers who can come less regularly due to further travel distances or other reasons so long as the volunteer schedule is mutually agreed upon.

We have many opportunities for volunteers here at Peace Ridge. Our most common volunteerships are for barn cleaning and care support, but other potential areas include landscaping, office/administrative work, fundraising, events, errands, carpentry, electrical/plumbing, technical skills, or other areas. We rely on dedicated volunteers to assist our caregiving team and maximize our work on behalf of animals. We are proud of our extremely high standards of cleanliness and care at PRS. While some volunteers come to PRS expecting that working with farmed animals will be personally therapeutic, we ask applicants to realize that we are focused on what we can to help animals, not what they can do for us here at PRS. Everyone on our team is here to serve the animals. The work that we do can be challenging and demanding, but it can also be very fulfilling. We have found that our best volunteers are deeply motivated by their belief in our mission. Volunteering is a great way to gain valuable experience if you are interested in work at PRS or another farmed animal sanctuary in the future.

I understand that omission or misstatement of material fact on this application may be grounds for rejection of this application or for immediate discharge if I am already volunteering, regardless of the time elapsed before discovery. I hereby authorize Peace Ridge Sanctuary to thoroughly investigate my references, work record, education, and other matters (including background checks) related to my suitability for volunteer employment (unless otherwise noted on application) and authorize the references I have listed to disclose to Peace Ridge Sanctuary any information related to my work records without giving me prior notice of this disclosure. I release Peace Ridge Sanctuary from any claims, demands, or liabilities arising out of or related to this disclosure.

I understand that is accepted into PRS’s volunteer program, my involvement will be at-will, meaning either PRS or I can terminate that volunteer position with or without good cause and with or without advance notice and that nothing contained in this application is intended to create a volunteer/employment contract between myself and PRS. I understand that this application does not guarantee acceptance into Peace Ridge Sanctuary’s volunteer program.
