Meet and Sponsor Our Ducks & Geese

ALBA

Sponsor Alba! Alba was living in a place where he and the rest of his flock had no protection from predators or proper shelter. Predictably, his entire flock was picked off one by one until he was the only survivor, through his head still had a wound from a narrow escape when we met him. We were alerted to his situation by neighbors who convinced Alba’s guardian to relinquish to PRS before he was the next victim.

AMELIA

Sponsor Amelia! Amelia came to PRS from a cruelty case in Whitefield, Maine that brought pigs, a turkey, and Amelia to PRS back in early 2013. A the time, she didn’t want anything to do with any of our rescued goose flocks and instead preferred to live in the goat barn alone. When fellow goose, Mr. Darcy, was rescued two years later, they immediately fell for each other and have been an inseparable pair ever since.

CHARLIE

Sponsor Charlie! Charlie arrived at PRS in the summer of 2020 along with another young duck, Jesse. Like so many, their guardians bought ducks at the start of the pandemic and quickly realized they didn’t have safe setups or the knowledge to give them the care they needed. These two wonderful boys arrived around the same time as another young male, Freddie, and quickly became a bonded trio.

CLEMENCE

Sponsor Clemence! Clemence came to PRS in early 2019 from a state cruelty seizure along with nine other ducks, eight rabbits, and two pigs. Left without any food, water, and living in filthy and unsafe conditions, Clemence and the rest of the ducks were filthy, dehydrated, and emaciated when they arrived. Even the simplest things – a bowl of fresh food or a bucket of clean water delighted them. These days, they are thriving.

DITA

Sponsor Dita! Dita is part of a bonded trio of geese here at PRS and is never far from her two companions Gwennie (seen here behind her) and Dunphrey. Born in 2004 and brought to PRS in 2006, Dita is one of our oldest geese here at the sanctuary. Even though she is well into her senior years, Dita is still thriving and loves spending her days swimming and exploring with her two best friends.

DUNPHREY

Sponsor Dunphrey! Dunphrey is a wonderful and devoted companion to Gwennie and Dita, two of the many geese who call PRS home. Preferring their own company, this trio shares our large bird habitat with the other rescued geese and ducks but have their own private housing for just them. We love watching him family group swimming, exploring, and watching Dunphrey dote on his special senior ladies.

FREDDIE

Sponsor Freddie! Freddie came to PRS in the summer of 2020. When his guardians took off on vacation, they didn’t have anyone caring for their flock of ducks and left them to fend for themselves. By the time the returned, every duck had been killed except young Freddie who was hatched their and saw his entire family killed. Here he quickly made friends with two other newly rescued young ducks, Charlie and Jesse.

JESSE

Sponsor Jesse! Jesse arrived at PRS in the summer of 2020 along with another young duck, Charlie. Like so many, their guardians bought ducks at the start of the pandemic and quickly realized they didn’t have safe setups or the knowledge to give them the care they needed. These two wonderful boys arrived around the same time as another young male, Freddie, and quickly became a bonded trio.

LOUISE

Sponsor Louise! Louise was rescued in 2012 when our director heard about the local feed and seed store offering up a couple unwanted ducklings for free to whoever wanted them for meat. Instead, these lucky ducks came to PRS. Here she Louise muddy from playing along with Georgie (behind), and Sarge (right) from the same rescue. Since this photo, Sarge passed away from cancer, but Louise and Georgia are still inseparable.

LUDMILA

Sponsor Ludmila! Ludmila (front) was rescued in 2011 when the farmer raising her flock abandoned them to fend for themselves after a fire. Here she is with her partner Rasputin (from the same rescue), who is never more than a few steps from her side and they very clearly love each other deeply. Preferring each other’s company to all others, these two share our large duck and goose habitat but live in their own private barn.

MR. DARCY

Sponsor Mr. Darcy! Mr. Darcy was found wandering the streets of Southern Maine along with his partner, who was shot in front of him. A compassionate family didn’t want the same fate for Mr. Darcy and captured him and brought him to PRS. He quickly bonded with one of our other single geese, Amelia (behind), and has been completely devoted to her ever since, never far from her side.

PAULINE

Sponsor Pauline! Pauline came to PRS in early 2019 from a state cruelty seizure along with nine other ducks, eight rabbits, and two pigs. Left without any food, water, and living in filthy and unsafe conditions, Pauline and the rest of the ducks were filthy, dehydrated, and emaciated when they arrived. Pauline is best friends with Faustine and you often don’t see one without the other far behind.

RASPUTIN

Sponsor Rasputin! Rasputin (right) was rescued in 2011 when the farmer raising his flock abandoned them to fend for themselves after a fire. Here he is with his partner Ludmila (left; from the same rescue), who is never more than a few steps from his side and they very clearly love each other deeply. Preferring each other’s company to all others, these two share our large duck and goose habitat but live in their own private barn.
