Rabbits are in a unique category of abused and exploited animals in this country. Like dogs and cats, many people have rabbits as pets and hold a deep affection for these fluffy tailed companions. However, unlike dogs and cats, these same companion animals are brutally housed on farms for their fur and meat. They are kept in wire battery cages and denied their basic instincts of hopping and digging. Disease, broken limbs, and infection are common as are inhumane and cruel handling. Whether kept on a small farm, factory farm, or individual home, these loveable creatures have no place on a dinner table or on a piece of clothing.
