Clara Belle

Clara Belle is a special dog looking for a special home. She is a laid back, extremely dog social fox hound. Clara's age is really unknown, but she's most likely somewhere between 4 and 8. She is a really easy dog, loves to go for leashed walks, enjoys fence time with other dogs, and likes to lounge on a cozy bed or couch. She is happy to blend into the background with her soft personality- she can do well in almost any environment. But she has cancer, and although she is in good health, it's the type of skin oriented cancer that may be a future issue. We are looking for a home with a special family who will show her what it's like to be a beloved family member, so she can enjoy the time she has left. Peace Ridge is willing to "put Clara out there" as a fospice dog (foster and eventual hospice) which means if you live within driving distance of Orrington or Ellsworth Maine, we could keep Clara's care on our veterinary account, so she has what she needs but you don't have to worry about the bills. We would like to work with someone who has the right attitude about end of life care and we'd be happy to talk more with an open person about what this could look like. In the meantime she is hanging out being a model dog for a scared little puppy- she is a wonderful surrogate!

Magic is a 3-4 month old black lab mix puppy. She is affectionate, needs lots of snuggling, and would do best in a home with another dog social, well behaved dog who can show her the ropes, and help her navigate some of the fear she has developed because of lack of socialization. That being said, she is a typical puppy- she wants to romp and play, chew and run and entertain someone with her antics. And then she wants to curl up on your lap to take a nap. As always, we are looking for a family who has someone at home for at least part of the day, or who can take work breaks to check in with her and attend to potty training breaks. We do not adopt puppies to families who have empty homes for more than 6 hours a day. She is partnered up with a social adult dog right now who is showing her the ropes.

Ella is a twelve year old rottie mix girl who is the belle of the sanctuary. She absolutely LOVES her ball- she will carry it around all day and loves to hear "Ella, where's your ball?!" She is fairly healthy, but she does have a tumor on her leg, which we have opted not to have removed (she had the previous tumors removed) because they are benign fibroadnexal hamartomas. Even though they are benign so far, it seems her "bumps" turn people off. Which is a shame, because she is an awesome dog who deserves a home!

She came in with another dog after her daddy died and left her homeless. She warms up to other dogs fairly well we are finding, especially if they are polite with her. We are looking for a placement where she can be the only dog or live with one other polite dog. She is fine with cats, and people of all ages (she loves playing with the director's daughter who is 9), but she is a big girl at 92 lbs. so we are looking for an adoptive family with no children under 12. She has nice manners, will "sit" on command, and knows to sit for her meals. She has good basic obedience, and is as fun-loving as they come.

Pablo is a 4 to 5 year old chihuahua mix. He's about 8 lbs., okay with cats and other dogs, is house trained and working on basic obedience. We would prefer to place Pablo in a home with adults only as he is sometimes insecure and unsure of things and would benefit from a quiet, consistent home. He loves to snuggle, go for walks, chew his nylabone. He is a nice little companion. He is neutered and ready to go.

Lucy is a 2 year old pointer/beagle mix. She is about 40 lbs., has nice basic obedience and is house trained, likes most other dogs- although she needs to learn to greet them more calmly, and loves people of all ages. She is a really nice girl with tremendous potential. Lucy can be hyper and needs a few good walks every day. She would benefit from having a secure fenced in yard, but does not want to be left alone in it. She is spayed and ready to be adopted! She will be a lot of fun for the right person or family.

Pongo is an almost 2 year old, 45 lb. mix of fun-loving and laid back. He absolutely loves other dogs and is "ok" with cats but tends to be too interested and too pesky with cats, so we want to find a no-cat home for him. After a good play romp or walk his favorite thing to do is lay by your feet. He walks nice on a weiss leash, has mastered basic obedience, has some clicker training and is finishing up his Manners 1 class- he has proven himself a real rockstar! He is crate trained and very obedient. Pongo's strength is that he was well socialized with other dogs when he was a puppy- he absolutely loves other dogs. He does need to work on some minor fear issues when first meeting certain types of men, but he has a strategy in place for those times, which works very well. He just needs a no-cat household, and kids over 8 would be best (he loves kids, but we want him to live in a household where communication around his training can be consistent). He is good in the house and just wants his own couch to lay on.

Jack is a 3-4 year old 65 pound boy who is playful, loves other dogs of all varieties, and is easy to be around. His DNA confirms that he is quite a mix; Corgi, American bulldog, Baden, Old English Sheepdog, and Canaan dog! He is a little shy upon first meeting him if you are accompanied by a man, but after a moment or so he warms right up and usually invites a good massage. He has a perfect "sit" and a really nice "lay down" which he will do when offered a treat. He is sociable and easy to please. He would make a great family dog for a family with older children or even just an adult home. We suspect he may have been abused- most likely by a man as he is shy and nervous with most of them (although some not at all) yet he tries to make friends when he isn't the focus of their attention. He currently lives with 4 other dogs and gets along with them exceptionally well. He is house-trained and very devoted to his person.
